Recurring Miscarriage

What is a usually referred to as a miscarriage occurs after the embryo has successfully implanted and the pregnancy has been diagnosed either by a pregnancy test or ultrasound.

A miscarriage can happen for many reasons.  Often times the miscarriage occurs because of a chromosomal abnormality exists, which makes the embryo unviable, and development ceases.  In this situation no medical intervention Eastern, or Western can change the outcome.

However, there are several other causes of miscarriage in which medical treatment does have an impact.  If the woman has suffered 2 or more miscarriages evaluation for the below causes should be considered.

  • Cervical incompetence & other physical abnormalities such as large fibroids
  • Hormonal causes
  • Genetic abnormalities in the parents
  • Immunological causes
  • Environmental factors
  • Diseases including: diabetes, thyroid disorders, gynecological disorders, intestinal disorders, and renal disease

Some of these causes, such as hormonal imbalance respond well to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment.  Others such as cervical incompetence or large fibroids are better treated with Western surgical intervention.

It is also important to note that exposure to environmental toxins is becoming increasingly recognized as a cause for miscarriage.  This issue and others are covered in my video the top 10 things couples trying to conceive should know, and in my report on treating infertility with TCM.
